Have no idea what to wear for family photos this fall (2020)? I went a little crazy and made some outfit ideas for you! I just spent hours sifting through Amazon (and only amazon) for these little inspiration boards. EVERY item is on amazon, and I have a link to it. I tried really hard to find listings that included many sizes and color options. Many of these items for fall family photos / portraits will come in different colors, so if you see a style for something but it is for a different board, you might just be in luck! I also tried to keep the options to amazon prime, because I know it can be frustrating to find the perfect item and then have amazon tell you its coming from China, and it will be here in 2021. Don’t wait to buy your outfits online too late though, I feel like our deliveries are really lagging lately.
I came up with 4 boards, and they are all on the casual side. I think Amazon is good for casual, but if you’re going to go fancy, I’d recommend buying appropriately non-amazon pieces that you’re for sure going to re-use or already own some of.
The trick to compiling the best outfits for your family is to add different textures and patterns – but just enough to keep things interesting. I like to switch up a Men’s and boy’s style of shirt so that it doesn’t end up looking like they’re matching. For example, If Dad is wearing a button up, son should be in a henley, tshirt, or sweater. Avoid putting both of your kids in the exact some color if you can.
I know some parents don’t enjoy buying their kids shoes that are not their everyday shoes, but it makes a huge difference in your photos. Consider buying them something in-between a fancy shoe and a regular shoe, that they can get more use out of. Personally, I like to buy my kids a pair of fun shoes for the holidays. They can also add so much character to a photo session! little red baby shoes, or some fantastic boots are a great accessory. If you hate buying something brand new, you can find great shoes and some clothes at kid-to-kid in The Woodlands, and potentially re-sell them back.
Obviously, none of these are likely to work perfectly for your family, but they’re a good jumping off point! If you’re totally stuck, just pick 1 color to start with. Look around your closets and find something that you want to wear, or you want one of your kids to wear, and then build from there.
I Hope these help someone find exactly what they were looking for, and maybe take away a bit of the stress of trying to figure out what to wear for fall family photos.
